Citizen Advisory Committee
Overall Plan
Bring education back to classic standards and change the system so that it functions as a representative service and not a dictatorship. Return to traditional subject matter and methods resulting in a good education for our children and successfully extend our culture forward.
Observation
Parents, citizens and the public are sometime “kept out of the loop.” Sometimes is just a result of the administrative process and sometimes it more nefarious where people are purposely blocked or discouraged from seiing or getting involved.
Plan
Establish a Citizen Advisory Committee and establish rules that it has a standing right to comment vocally or in writing on proposed approvals of textbooks, materials and curricula.
This is mainly a” procedure” project. It affects procedure within the system and doesn't address any specific issues or philosophical subjects. It does establish a view” into the approval process and provides a way of getting a voice regarding pending approvals.
Basics
1. Who are the players?
School Board
School Staff and Administration
Legislators
2. Worthwhile Purpose – To further bend the process toward that of “we the people” actively monitoring activity and being in-charge of education. It also creates an additional method of being in communication with the school board and being up-to-date with current events.
3 Who’s In-charge – Bill (a fake name - write the real name here)
4. How is it Organized
Decide on virtual and/or in-person meetings. Regularly scheduled or as-needed.
5. How Reorganized - make sure there is a well-defined process for regular inspection and reorganization, if needed. An internal watchdog group might fit the bill.
Target Date
90 days.
Vital To Do
Find out what the existing law is and find out who currently holds the real decision making power.
Conditional
Do a little recon see if the school board is agreeable to this idea. If they agree, just get it up and running and, for the most part, you can abandon this project and consider it done.
Try to predict whether you will need petitions, demonstrations, protests, rallies and printed or digital media material to persuade people to your cause.
Actions
Find out where the control resides and who holds the authority regarding this subject.
Write up your proposal and have an attorney check it to make sure it's legal and worded properly.
Promote, lobby, protest and debate as needed.
Enlist support from as many people as possible.
Make the proposal.
Find or establish an efficient way of reporting that easily reaches the general public.
Statistical Measurement of Progress
Number of presentations promoting change made.
Extra points for getting the new function established.
Number of reports published
