Observation

Quite often, there is no correlation between the textbook or curriculum to be approved and the people behind the request. The candidate can talk about this and that and then, after they're elected (safe) they then support something that might have cost them the election, had we know prior to the election.

Plan

Establish a regulation that any request for approval of a textbook, material and curriculum or intention to file for approval during the fiscal period must occur at least one day before the current active election.

2. Worthwhile Purpose – This kind of action has a duel purpose. It makes the proposed textbooks and materials public for all to see. It prevents sneaking anything through the approval process. It also prevents candidates from hiding their support for proposed approvals and causes candidates to show what they actually support. It encourages a more open and honest election. Lastly, it forces a link between candidates and approvals.

Decide on virtual and/or in-person meetings.

5. How Reorganized - make sure there is a well-defined process for regular inspection and reorganization, if needed. An internal watchdog group might fit the bill.

Find out what the existing calendar is and find out where the real decision making power concerning the calendar resides.

Conditional

Try to predict whether you will need petitions, demonstrations, protests, rallies and printed or digital media materials to persuade people to your cause.

Actions

Start a calendar and showing all of the elections going out as many years as possible. Five years would probably be enough.

Write up your proposal and have an attorney check it to make sure it's legal and worded properly.

Promote, lobby, protest and debate as needed.

Enlist support from as many people as possible.

Make the proposal.

Find or establish an efficient way of reporting that easily reaches the general public.
