Overall Plan

Bring education back to classic standards and change the system so that it functions as a representative service and not a dictatorship. Return to traditional subject matter and methods resulting in a good education for our children and successfully extend our culture forward.

Observation

Some school boards are pretty good at public reporting and transparency. Some are not. For some, it's not hard to find out what they did or what they are thinking. For others, we don't know what they did, what they're working on or when they are going to meet again. No sunshine. We ask our legislatures and HOAs to notify us in advance of meetings and publish the detailed minutes of all meetings. Why not school boards?

Plan

Establish a rule that every meeting must be followed with published, verbatim notes including all votes, listed individually and showing the “yeas” and “nays.” Included in the rule is a requirement the notice of meeting must be publicized at least seven days in advance of the meeting.

This is mainly a” preemptive” project. It affects procedure within the system and doesn't address any specific issues or philosophical subjects. It does establish transparency for the public and formalizes the practice of full and accurate reporting.

2. Worthwhile Purpose – Reporting accurately what is going on has several good effects. It keeps participants honest and gives us good data which we can use to evaluate certain situations.

Decide on virtual and/or in-person meetings. Regularly scheduled or as-needed

5. How Reorganized - make sure there is a well-defined process for regular inspection and reorganization, if needed. An internal watchdog group might fit the bill.

Find out what the existing law is and find out who currently holds the real decision making power.

Conditional

If the school board is already reporting satisfactorily, then there is no need for this project.

Try to predict whether you will need petitions, demonstrations, protests, rallies and printed or digital media material to persuade people to your cause.

Actions

List all the people you might have to deal with.

Find out where the control resides and who holds the authority regarding this subject.

Write up your proposal and have an attorney check it to make sure it's legal and worded properly.

Promote, lobby, protest and debate as needed.

Enlist support from as many people as possible.

Make the proposal.

Find or establish an efficient way of reporting that easily reaches the general public.
