Overall Plan

Bring education back to classic standards and change the system so that iy functions as a representative service and not a dictatorship. Return to traditional subject matter and methods resulting in a good education for our children and successfully extend our culture forward.

Observation

At times, the school board or parents or teachers have opposing points of view. Under the current system, the school board or the presiding office has the power to dictate or enforce a decision ignoring the desire of citizens. This authority has evolved over time and is perfectly legitimate, but this project would reverse that authority restoring parents and citizens as the main decision-makers.

Plan

Establish a regulation that any textbook, material and curriculum can be recalled or canceled by a vote of the local citizens. An alternative would be to require a petition process stating the minimum number of people that must sign for it to be approved.

Worthwhile Purpose – To reverse the power of approval making the citizens and parents the decision-makers and making the school board and school administrators responsible to the wants and needs of the public. Also provides a mechanism for citizens and parents to bypass school boards and school administrators.

Decide on virtual and/or in-person meetings.

5. How Reorganized - make sure there is a well-defined process for regular inspection and reorganization, if needed. An internal watchdog group might fit the bill.

Find out what the existing law is and find out who currently has the real decision making power.

Conditional

Try to predict whether you will need a petitions, demonstrations, protests, rallies and printed or digital media material to persuade people to your cause.

Determine if the people who make decisions are in or out of agreement with your ideas. If they agree with you on everything, then you can abandon this project.

Note: There are two aspect to this project. One is changing the process, the other is recalling textbooks, materials or curricula that have been previously approved. This project addresses the first aspect. Use the Recall Project to address specifics textbooks, material and curricula.

Write up your proposal and have an attorney check it to make sure it's legal and worded properly.

Promote, lobby, protest and debate as needed.
