#13 - Spending
It often seems like a secondary issue, but spending money should not be outside the budget. It shouldn't be deficit spending or unauthorized spending. It shouldn't be hidden from public view.
Just make sure it’s on the budget, not hidden from public view and well explained. Make sure it’s not too extravagant. No $300 hammers or trips to Tahiti. Make sure the expenses are legitimate and for things that are really needed and contribute to a known goal or progress.
Watch for budget double-talk. Double counting, labels and definitions that really mean something else. Not telling the full story. Hiding some expenses in other budgets. Enlist a CPA or financial expert, if you can.
