#9 - Critical Thinking - Opinion
Critical Thinking
Critical Thinking has been analyzed by experts in a hundred different ways – some probably enlightening and some helping us in understanding what it is and why it's important.
Without detracting from these well informed points of view, critical thinking could be reduced to just the ability to perceive, the ability to see problems or issues and to think trough and communicate a good solution to the situation. In addition, it involves looking at the solution applied and adjusting it, if needed.

There are a million other ways to analyze it and scholars will continue to do so for eternity. A overview of the education process and the simplicity is just this; we teach students the basics like reading, writing and arithmetic followed by critical thinking followed by expression. In college or trade school, students can then specialize in an area of interest or a subject they need to peruse a certain career.

Specialization
The U.S. used to be number one in the world for basic academics. We are not number one anymore and concern has been expressed.
But even more concerning is the apparent lack of critical thinking. It's hard to measure empirically, but the rise of “ologies” that tell people WHAT to think and the apparent disregard for principles that are centuries old suggest that critical thinking is all but gone in our school system, today.
