On the one hand, truth seems to be black or white. It’s either the truth or it isn’t.

On the other hand, truth can be variable. It comes in different forms.

High Level Truth

At its highest level, truth is pretty straight forward. People who are telling the truth are not mis-emotional. They may be enthusiastic or just reserved, but they don’t have an air of drama about them - strong drama or even a hint of drama. They can reason well and usually do. Their arguments are usually logical and make sense. They’re persuasive.

Generally True

These people tell the truth in large part, but may exaggerate or slightly alter the truth by add a little “color” to it. Generally speaking, they can be believed, but it never hurts to double-check what they tell you. You can usually recognize it because it’s delivered with some drama and posturing.

Angry or Antagonistic Truth

While there may be some half-truths involved at this level, most everything is filtered though a lens of “how can I hurt you the most?” The main objective is to fight with you and win and the subject is not so important. At the upper end of this level, things are pretty overt - out in the open.

Questionably True

At lower levels, things get pretty covert - smile to your face and a knife in your back. This is a pretty deceitful situation. Most of think, that if someone is being nice to you, that “these guys are OK and would never do anything to harm us.” Oh ya! Live and learn.

Delusional

At this level, people may not even know what they are for or against. Often, theses people argue for something imaginary. They are so delusional that their cause is not recognizable to anyone.

Problem? What problem?

At the bottom of the barrel, people don’t even realize there is an issue, so the truth is of no concern to them. Nothing is a concern to them.

So, let’s review. When someone talks to you about textbooks, materials, curricula or any of the many issues regarding education, truthful people are usually enthusiastic, logical and not overly dramatic. You can have a two-way conversation with them. Below that, people become increasingly adversarial and delusional down to the point where they are not aware of anything.

So, yes. Truth is black or white. It’s either the truth or it isn’t. But it does manifest itself in different ways that are worth paying attention to. More truth at one end and less truth at the other.
