#15 - Critical Race Theory (CRT) - Opinion
The definition of Critical Race Theory (CRT) is well covered in a number of places. There are complex explanations and definitions of CRT told in high-powered language that explore Critical Race Theory from every point of view.
Sometimes we get all wrapped around the axle about something and we don't see the bigger issue. That's the situation with regard to CRT. There is a lot of high-energy public discussions both for and against CRT. Some people say it's the greatest thing since sliced bread and others say it's just made up indoctrination. It is suspected that a lot of it is fictional; made up to promote a certain belief in how things are or how things ought to be be. It seems like it's jut more indoctrination in support of communism and socialism. It's a convent rewrite of history that distorts the truth.
It's being shoved down our throats. In most cases, CRT was adopted without discussion, warning or advance notice. It is being launched in a very covert way.
The objection to Critical Race Theory is probably well covered. The real objection has to do more with HOW it is taught. It violates a primary tenant of education:
Don't teach them WHAT to think, teach them HOW to think.
It's OK to talk about Critical Race Theory, but be honest about what it is; what is it trying to do; where and with whom did it originate. If we had all that, we could have an open discussion about it's merits and legitimacy and people could decide for themselves if they were for it or against it. Liberty. Power of Choice.
Without coming down for or against it, it seems the real issue is not whether it's good or bad, but the WAY in which it's being installed and the method of how it's being adapted in our schools.
