There are different kinds of projects. Having definitions and labels might help in understanding them and having a clear view of what they mean.

Here are the different kinds of projects:

Emergency or Current Situation

In this case, you may have to think on your feet and improvise a solution.

Textbooks, Materials and Curricula

This can range from getting a particular textbook, material or curriculum banned to changing or establishing guidelines regarding these items. These projects can be general or focused and may be short or long-term in nature.

Processes and Systems

Like other categories, this could be aimed at a specific process or it could be concerned with a general guideline of some sort. The nature of the project will dictate the length and focus needed.

Laws and Rules

Generally speaking, anything to do with laws and rules would require more tie and effort. It might also include the need for legal counsel. It is more likely to involve meetings, proposals, public speaking, lobbying, protest and demonstrations.

People

Sometimes this can be emotional and confrontational. It may be evidence-driven or it may be a difference of viewpoints. If it’s focused on a specific person or a group of people, it may be more pressing to get it done now. If it’s general in nature, it will stretch out over time.

Philosophical

Philosophical issues are usually long-term ones that require a lot of debate and persuasion. Mental or physical force or duress usually don’t accomplish the job. You have to have your logic and talking points worked out in order to persuade anyone and you have to be willing to crusade for your cause.

In summary, the education system needs to be converted from a dictatorial government bureaucracy to a public service run by people who represent us; we the people. It needs to be restored to its old, working structure with the wisdom to evolve sanely into the future. Knowing a little bit about projects might help you toward your goals.
